Staff spotlight: Preston finds his passion in finance

Small Towns

Preparing bills and invoices, and processing payroll, deposits, and accounts payables—most people wouldn’t know where to begin if charged with these tasks. Preston Peters, however, shines when it comes to knowing the ins and outs of numbers.

After time spent as an accounting tutor at Northeast Community College, and logging banking experience in Kearney, Preston recently joined the Center for Rural Affairs as an accounting assistant.

“I have always had a love for math and finance,” said Preston. “Those were my two strongest areas in school, so this accounting position allows me to demonstrate my strengths.”

His love of number-crunching wasn’t the only thing that brought Preston to the Center. A native of Bancroft, Nebraska, Preston grew up rural, and prides himself on remaining a rural advocate as an adult.

“Rural America presents so many great experiences that cannot be offered in a city setting,” he said. “I could not imagine growing up anywhere other than a rural community.”

The opportunity to work with an organization that upholds the “unapologetically rural” motto was too much for Preston to pass up.

“I love the fact that the Center strives to enhance the quality of living in rural communities,” he said. “My hope is to implement new ideas and processes to help make everyone's lives easier while submitting various financial documents.”

Preston can be reached at the Center’s office in Lyons, Nebraska, at 402.687.2100 ext.1024 or prestonp@cfra.org.
