Applications for rural housing projects now accepted by Nebraska Department of Economic Development

Small Towns

The Nebraska Department of Economic Development is now accepting applications for the Rural Workforce Housing Fund. This vital program supports the development of affordable housing in rural communities, driving economic growth, and improving quality of life.

The RWHF is a grant program open to nonprofit development organizations for the development of:

  • New owner-occupied housing (up to $325,000)
  • New rental housing units (up to $250,000)
  • Rehabilitation of existing buildings

To be eligible, applicants must provide at least 50% matching funds.

Important deadlines:

  • Letter of intent: Nov. 21, 2024
  • Full application: Jan. 15, 2025

As remote work opportunities and shifting demographic drive demand for rural housing, limited supply hinders growth. Rural Workforce Housing Fund investments empower community leaders to attract workers, families, and boost local economies.
