Field Notes - Iowa's legislative session begins Monday

The 2025 Iowa legislative session will begin Monday, Jan. 13. This year’s session is anticipated to last 110 calendar days, ending in early May.

Throughout the session, Center for Rural Affairs staff will monitor legislation impacting rural Iowa, particularly bills related to water quality, renewable energy, and rural grocery. To learn more about our 2025 state legislative priorities, click here.

On Tuesday, Jan. 14, at 6 p.m., Gov. Kim Reynolds will outline her legislative priorities in the annual Condition of the State address. The speech will be streamed live on Iowa PBS and on the governor’s Facebook page.
