Urgent Update! The Iowa legislature has scheduled a public hearing at the Capitol for 10 a.m. on Monday. The hearing provides an opportunity for Iowans to weigh in on the 2018 budget, which cuts several programs we support.
We have two high priority opportunities for supporters who are able to join us at the Capitol:
1. The proposed budget eliminates the Leopold Center for sustainable agriculture. We need farmers, researchers and others who have directly benefited from Leopold Center programs and research to show up and speak out.
If the proposed budget bills pass, the Leopold Center will be forced to close its doors after 30 years of service to rural Iowans.
2. The budget cuts the solar tax credit from $5 million to $4 million. The solar tax credit is a temporary, capped tax credit that has spurred impressive and distributed economic benefits in throughout Iowa. The dollars cut from this program will have much greater economic benefits for rural Iowans if they are returned to the tax credit budget.
You can register to speak at the public hearing here. We are happy to help prepare you to speak if needed.
Please join us for the public hearing!
