There are yellow, orange, and red tomatoes of various sizes in light green baskets on a table top. In the front right corner, there are two white gourds.

Connecting Communities and Local Food in Central Nebraska

From April to August 2025, the Center for Rural Affairs had nearly $150,000 to purchase food from local producers. The food was then donated to local food pantries and other eligible institutions.

Foods eligible for purchase included fresh fruits, fresh vegetables, meat, dairy, honey, maple syrup, and certain grains like buckwheat. We included producers within Custer, Blaine, Dawson, Loup, Adams, Hall, Buffalo, Garfield, Wheeler, Valley, Greeley, and Sherman counties in Nebraska. We worked with producers within a 400 mile radius of these counties, depending on distribution capacity.
