As the nation’s students and teachers return to school, here are selected statistics about American schools, students, and the educational process. The information was compiled by Institute of Education Services and derives from the Institute’s research and statistical centers.

Elementary and Secondary Education Facts

- $489.4 billion –Projected expenditure for public elementary and secondary schools in the 2007-08 school year. Per pupil public school expenditures have increased by over $3,000 since 1990-91. It is projected that the 2007-08 school year will see per pupil spending ranging from $9,911 (low projection) to $10,070 (high projection), with an average per pupil expenditure of $9,969.

Small Farm Energy Primer Online

While energy-saving innovations languished through the 1990s, high energy prices have renewed interest in ways to conserve energy or produce it on the farm.

New Farmers’ Guide to Wind Energy

Farmers’ Legal Action Group, Inc. (FLAG) has published the Farmers’ Guide to Wind Energy: Legal Issues in Farming the Wind. The guide contains important legal information for farmers interested in a range of wind energy developments, whether leasing land to a third-party developer, installing a small wind turbine for on-farm energy needs, or developing a large farmer-owned wind project for profit.
