LINCOLN, NEBRASKA – New and beginning farmers are invited to attend workshops designed to help them get started in agriculture. Hosted by the Center for Rural Affairs and Community Crops, these events will be held on two different days, and each focus on available resources.
These free field days are scheduled for June 23 and 30, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at Community Crops at Prairie Pines, 3100 N. 112th St., Lincoln.
“We’ve set up these events for folks who are wanting to start to farm, but aren’t sure how to get going,” said Kirstin Bailey, project organizer for the Center for Rural Affairs. “We’ll get to talk about the benefits of starting at an incubator farm, what U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) programs are available for beginning farmers, and answer questions throughout the day.”
The first event,“Explore Farming,” will include discussion of considerations aspiring farmers may need to make during the first stages of farming. Guests will tour Prairie Pines Incubator Farm and meet farmers who are starting at the incubator farm.
During “Land Options for Beginning Farmers,” participants will have an opportunity to learn about land options for starting a farm. Several alternative land options will be mentioned, along with the traditional ones.
Lunch will be provided at no cost.
For the June 23 event, RSVPs are required by Wednesday, June 20. For the June 30 event, RSVPs are required by Wednesday, June 27. Visit cfra.org/events for more information.
